The Hands of Respect created much interest at the Martin Luther King Jr Center for Non Violent Social Change. Dr King, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela all achieved institutional social change by harnessing people power.
are an 8 foot tall, 5 ton granite sculpture of a male and female hand placed together to form the symbol for RESPECT.
A 10 ten ton block of granite was quarried by Keystone Memorials in Elberton, Georgia, USA and sawn into two 5 ton blocks, each ready to be carved by well known Athens GA sculptor Stan Mullins.
The Hands of Respect were commissioned to be a tangible example of the symbol for Respect.
